About me and my new website.

"Thank you so much for all the work you have put in to produce a very workable website for the church. We have been very grateful for your patience, your advice and the helpful suggestions you have made along the way to improve the site. The design is very eye catching and is easy to move around. We think that if anyone wants to know what Totteridge Baptist Church is about they should be able find their way around very easily. Thank you also for your willingness to update things as we think of new ideas. We are happy to recommend you and give any reference you might find useful. The site itself is a reference to your talents."

The website was developed to present my work in a friendly inviting way. I wanted it to be brief and to the point so that potential clients can get a feeling of what I do quite quickly without having to look through lots of pages. I also wanted to include a Blog. I have never had a blog before but feel the need to write about some of the development ideas I have and also I get to talk about my favourite subject to people who want to read it, rather than boring the pants off my wife or mates down the pub.
The site is made up from html, CSS, PHP and Flash CS4
The HTML was successfully checked as XHTML 1.0 Transitional by W3C and the CSS was validated to CSS level 2.1.
The Flash components where developed with Flash player 10 and have been scripted with Actionscript 3.0.
The blog has been developed with PHP and MYSQL. At the moment it´s just right for my needs but will need to be re-developed if I start writing more blogs.
One of the biggest problems I face with the site is it has a lot of images which I had to compress for the web as much as I could without losing the quality. I wanted the images to look as if they were sitting on the wooden background.
One of the solutions to this was to use CSS sprites for the navigation which cut down the HTTP requests to the server. It also speeded up the navigation without the need for pre-loaders.
For IE 6 the problem was mainly the PNG images with transparency so I used a PNG fix to resolve that issue.
So now I have a blog, I think I should go and write some stuff to put there.
CHEERS
